Big East Goes 1-3 On The First Day And Overall Is Unimpressive

Villanova almost became the first #2 seed to lose first round since 2001, when #15 Hampton University beat #2 Iowa State. Villanova pulled out the 73-70 win over Robert Morris in overtime, and it should've been 75-70 but Nova's Reggie Redding decided to pull the ball out after having a wide open layup. Redding ended up getting fouled and missed free throws and gave Robert Morris a shot to tie the game on a full court heave.

Robert Morris was led by Karon Abraham with 23 points.

Nova's coach, Jay Wright, decided not to start both Scottie Reynolds and Corey Fisher for unknown reasons. Reynolds looked like he was benched for basketball reason as he shot 2-15 from the field, but ended up leading the team with 20 points because he went 15-16 from the free throw line.

Villanova needs to regroup and be thankful they weren't upset and come out next round ready to play against St. Mary's.

In a game where both teams seemed evenly matched, Washington got a last second shot from Quincy Pondexter to beat Marqutte 80-78. Pondexter finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

The game was even the whole way, and it was no surprise that it took a last second shot to decide the winner.

Lazar Hayward led Marquette with 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. I honestly believe that the selection committee overrated Marquette by giving them a #6 seed.

This really wasn't that much of an upset, as Old Dominion beat Notre Dame 51-50. See previous blog post for more thoughts on the game.

This was one of the biggest upset in the NCAA tourney in some years as Georgetown was beaten by Ohio 97-83. You couldn't of told me before the game that Ohio would score 97. I didn't even think Ohio had a chance of beating Georgetown, the beauty of March Madness. See previous blog post for more thoughts on the game.

Overall, the Big East lost two games that they were capable of losing (ND loss to ODU & Marquette's loss to Washington). The surprises were top of the conference teams' (Nova & G'Town) performances yesterday. Villanova honestly didn't deserve to win and Georgetown looked like they were playing for no reason. WHERE WAS THE MOTIVATION?!?!
