Reactions to the Brackets
I will be doing a complete break down of every region soon, but first just some initial reactions from when I first saw the brackets.
First and foremost, I must say that I must've been confused all along as to how they make these brackets. I always thought that the top number 1 seed gets the easiest bracket and then the 2nd number 1 gets the 2nd easiest, but that's far from true this year.
For some reason the selection committee decided to reward Duke (the tourney's 3rd best number 1 seed) with the easiest bracket. Honestly Duke didn't deserve this bracket especially since they didn't impress in the ACC tournament against weak teams. Everyone knows the ACC isn't as good this year as it is traditionally, and Duke honestly isn't that good. In my opinion both West Virginia and Ohio State were more deserving of a top seed than Duke.
The second easiest bracket went to Syracuse, and as a 'Cuse fan I cannot help but to be happy about this because the way it looks we should have no problem getting to at least the Elite 8 before we start to sweat.
Somebody in the selection committee really doesn't like Kentucky, especially since they have the potential to meet a Texas team in the 2nd round. I honestly think if Rick Barnes properly motivates this Texas team that they have the potential to return to playing like the team that was once #1 in the nation. Kentucky also has Temple, New Mexico, and West Virginia in their bracket. They have a tough road to get to Indianapolis.
If the selection committee doesn't like Kentucky, then they HATE Kansas. Kansas is playing like the best team right now, but it will be all out hell trying to make it to the Final Four for them. Their brackets includes Michigan State, Georgetown, and Ohio State. Also teams like Maryland, Oklahoma State, and Tennessee are very capable of pulling off upsets.
To end this I basically think the selection committee messed up the #1 seeds. They treated the #1 seeds as if the rankings were #1 Duke #2 Syracuse #3 Kentucky and #4 Kansas. When in reality it is #1 Kansas #2 Kentucky #3 Duke and #4 Syracuse.
I haven't really fully went over my bracket but my early favorite to win it all is Syracuse, because of the 2-3 zone and unselfishness.
