Top 5 Scorers in the NBA Today

It's a big debate these days about who's the best scorer in the league, and with the top 4 scorers switching almost on a daily basis it's not hard to understand exactly why this is such a huge debate.

As of March 12th, LeBron leads the league with 29.9 points game but Durant is a close 2nd with 29.7. Melo is 3rd with 28.6 followed by Kobe with 27.7. If anyone of these players explodes for a 40 point game this all could change tomorrow.

My rankings are not based on strictly numbers because of team needs...plus everyone knows numbers don't always tell the story! Let's Get It!

#1 Carmelo Anthony

Yeah I know. If you know me it was no surprise that I picked Melo for the top spot, but it's more than me being a huge Syracuse fan. Point blank Melo is the best scorer in the league! He has the strength to body his man in the post and the shooting touch to hit the shot from the perimeter. He's proven his scoring ability in the Olympics also as he was the team leader in 2008 games! He wants the ball with the game on the line and has hit many memorable game winners in his career, including one right in LeBron's face this season.

#2 Kobe Bryant

You can hate Kobe all you want for his cocky demeanor (and lord knows I do), but you have to respect his game. He's the best player in the game and with 4 rings and counting he'll retire one of the best ever. He can score with ease on anybody, and the only reason he doesn't get the nod over Melo is the size difference and Melo's ability in the paint. It is hard to name a player in the history of the league that is more effective scoring than Kobe in the 4th quarter. Plain and simple he has the killer instinct that LeBron lacks.

#3 Kevin Durant

Seriously what were the Blazers thinking when they passed this kid?! He's played 64 games this season so far and scored at least 30 points in 36 of those games. If he wasn't so damn skinny and didn't shoot mostly jump shots, then he would easily be the best scorer in the league. The best thing about this season is that Durant's scoring is leading the Thunder into a playoff spot. His size makes him a mismatch for anyone! And the fact he's so humble makes him one of the most likeable players in the league and he's just getting started!

#4 LeBron James

Before you say it, I already know that LeBron leads the league in scoring with 29.9 per game. Yes he's the most exciting scorer and player in the league, but most of his points come from being overly athletic as he has no problem getting by anyone in the league. Everyone knows to get out of the lane when LeBron comes or you'll be the next poster hanging on walls worldwide. His jumper has gotten a lot better since he entered the league but it's not as consistent as the three players before him. He still cannot lead this current team he has to a championship, but it is not a knock on him it has to do with his wack supporting cast. He can score with the best of them, but LeBron still doesn't have that killer instinct like Kobe and he also is the worst player in the league at handling losses.

#5 Danny Granger

Yeah I know casual basketball fans are like "WHO?!?!", but Granger is the real deal on a bad team that no one ever sees (unless you live in Pacers Country of course). This kid can flat out score with the best of them and would be a lot of people's favorite player if he played on a better team or in a bigger market. I feel sorry for him because he signed a contract extension before the 08-09 season and is stuck in Indiana for a while now. His scoring average has dropped to 22.9 points a game this season but a large part of that has to do with a couple nagging injuries he's had to deal with this season. Try your hardest to catch a Pacers game, but that's going to be hard when the Pacers are never on TV.

Honorable Mention

Dirk Nowitzki

Dwyane Wade

Monta Ellis

Gilbert Arenas
